It is the first time the group is present in Brazil and also in South America

Band with one of the most active community of fans, the RATM is presented in SWU headline on October 9. The followers of the South American iconic 90s expecting to see them play live on the mainland since 1992, when the group burst hit “Killing in the Name.”

The RATM broke up in 2000 and surprised the audience when he returned to the stage after seven years in 2007, the Coachella festival in the United States. They were the headliners of the American event, selling out the sale of tickets in record time in the history of this festival.

Formed by Zack de la Rocha, Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk, RATM is one of the most influential bands of the 1990s. The group is known as a political and protest songs, marked by the heavy sound that blends hip-hop, rock, funk, punk and heavy metal.

RATM attitude also extends to his fan base. At the end of 2009, 17 years after its release, the hit “Killing in the Name” was No. 1 in the UK with over 500,000 downloads, thanks to a campaign carried on Facebook for fans of the band to end monopoly of downloads of a TV program in the region. The campaign gave great visibility to the band, being supported by artists like Dave Grohl, The Prodigy and Paul McCartney.

Now at SWU, they promise a presentation that will go down in history.

Rock in Rio Festival is headed home

Rock in Rio’s press office reported yesterday (07/19) that the event is scheduled to return home to Rio de Janeiro in September of 2011. The most recent edition of the event in Rio was held in 2001, when the lineup included the likes of R.E.M, Foo Fighters, Guns N ‘Roses, Neil Young, Oasis and The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, among others.

According to the press release, the event should take place in Jacarepaguá, in the Western Zone of Rio. The site is the same one chosen to house the Athlete Park and Olympic Village for the 2016 Olympics.

Also according to the statement, a meeting between Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes and event organizer Roberto Medina, who owns the Rock in Rio brand, has been scheduled forAugust. More information will be released after the two have discussed the details of the festival.

This will be the fourth edition of Rock in Rio in Brazil. The festival, which originated in 1985, has brought bands like Queen, Rod Stewart, AC / DC, Yes, The B-52′s, Prince, Joe Cocker, INXS, among others.

Since 2001, Medina has expanded the brand (took the tag) to several large European cities such as Lisbon and Madrid.

E-mail Marketing Service Grades Fans

Email service company FanBridge has added a new service called FanRank, which automatically tracks a sender’s interactions with fans and grades them as Super Fans (highly engaged, open many emails), Casual Fans (moderately engaged), At-Risk Fans (fans becoming less engaged).

The ability to separate an email list into buckets of fans has long been an important aspect of digital marketing. Fans that are more active can be contacted more often, sent special deals and treated as VIPs. On the other end of the spectrum, fans that appear to be losing interest can be targeted with specific messages and offers to regain interest. Targeting fans in these ways allows for a more customized approach. After all, no two fans are alike.

Fugazi to release hundreds of live shows online

Fugazi have revealed plans to put hundreds of their concerts online, helping thousands of fans to recall their favourite mosh-pit bruises. The legendary 1990s punk band will launch an internet archive featuring “almost every show” they ever played.

“We are not that far away from being able to set up our own website where ultimately almost every show we ever played will be available for download,” guitarist Guy Picciotto recently told fansite World of Fugazi (via Twentyfourbit).

The Washington, DC band, revered by the DIY and post-hardcore scenes, toured the world from 1987 until 2002. Although bootlegs of their shows have been traded on tape, CD and now MP3, Fugazi have only previously issued 30 live recordings, as part of their Fugazi Live Series CD-Rs. These included concerts in New York, Hong Kong and London.

According to Picciotto, Dischord Records is still busy converting the stack of bootlegs to a digital format and preparing the “infrastructure” of the project website. The recordings will probably be released a few at a time, beginning later this year.

The archive’s official announcement, still forthcoming from Dischord, could be an opportunity for an even bigger announcement – say, a Fugazi reunion. Despite an eight-year hiatus, the band have never officially broken up. Musically, Picciotto has been busy over the past two years, working with the late Vic Chesnutt.

UltraViolet

Small steps! The Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem, a coalition of tech and entertainment companies that’s supposed to create a seamless, cloud-based consumer-friendly media network, now has a brand name: “UltraViolet”. And a logo, too.

Next step is getting the thing up and running. But the DECE, which has nearly 60 companies signed on and has been working on this stuff for a couple years, says it’s getting closer.

By the end of this year, it promises to have tech specs and licensing details ready to go.

Then there’s the real question: Will you have any interest in this stuff?

The DECE is either wildly ambitious or unwieldy and destined to fail, depending on your perspective. And it’s also a little nebulous and hard to explain.

But the gist is that it creates a system that allows you to consume movies, tv shows, etc on a variety of devices. And it’s supposed to manage the confusing world of digital rights management — the media companies’ lock-and-key system — via a Web-based account, so that you don’t have to think about it.

That’s not a terrible pitch, right? But this supposes that a group featuring everyone from Microsoft (MSFT) to Intel (INTC) to Sony (SNE) to Time Warner’s Warner Bros (TWX), can work together to produce a decent consumer experience. If you’re skeptical about this, you’re not alone.

And DECE’s other big problem is the absence of two companies: Apple (AAPL) and Disney (DIS). The latter is creating Keychest, its own, equally confusing cloud-based DRM management scheme. And the former is, well, Apple.

Steve Jobs’ go-it-alone approach to software and media standards has worked out pretty well for him so far. Hard to see that changing. And hard to see an industry standard that doesn’t work with Apple getting much traction.

Deftones can join the SWU line-up

There’s a strong rumor that the band Deftones is coming to SWU (Starts With You)
The alternative metal band returns to Brazil after 1 year of its presentation Maquinaria Festival to promote their latest album named Diamond Eyes, released worldwide on May 4th.
The source didn’t inform us about the dates yet but we’ll keep you updated via twitter

Chino Moreno at Maquinaria

Deftones was formed in 1998 by Chino Moreno (lead vocals and guitar), Stephen Carpenter (guitar), Chi Cheng (bass), Frank Delgado (keyboards and turntables) and Abe Cunningham (drums and percussion). Currently Sergio Vega replaces Chi Cheng after a serious accident suffered two years ago leaving behind Cheng in a coma. Because of this the album “Eros” that was wrote with Cheng and would be launched in early 2009, was postponed again without an official release date.

Apple Allowing Google to Sell Targeted Ads on iPhone

New York – Mobile ads from Google’s AdMob are not being rejected from Apple’s new iAd platform, as Apple had implied several weeks ago might be the case, The Wall Street Journal reported. Developers confirmed for The Journal that their iPhone applications that utilize AdMob for ad-serving are being approved by Apple.

Apple had previously stated that it would bar mobile ads served by third-party ad networks that have corporate parents also involved in developing mobile phones and mobile operating systems — as Google does.

Apple launched the iAd platform on Thursday, reportedly charging marketers between $1 million and $10 million to use the format.

Advertisers include Unilever, Disney, Nissan, AT&T, Chanel, Geico, Best Buy, DirecTV and Turner Broadcasting have committed to spend up to $60 million on the platform through the end of the year.

The Journal notes that Apple’s move could have the effect of relieving pressure from federal antitrust regulators, who are conducting an informal inquiry into Apple.

Black Eyed Peas and James Cameron team up for 3D concert film

Following his blockbuster film about tall blue aliens, James Cameron’s next movie has an even more ridiculous subject matter: the Black Eyed Peas. The Avatar director is to make a 3-D documentary about the band, according to Will.I.Am.

“We have the biggest director, because we are the biggest group on the planet,” Will.I.Am told Vibe magazine, with typical modesty. The project doesn’t seem like it will take much science-fiction “world-building” – it’s a concert movie, “based around [the Peas'] tour activities”. As if to assuage fears that one gigantic arena gig looks just like any other, the group’s frontman also promises the film will have a “dope” story.

“We’ve toured from America and Europe, to the Middle East, South America, Asia and Africa,” he said. “It’s not like we go, ‘Yo, we are international, you know what I’m saying? London and Paris!’ Nah, that’s just two cities. We want to go across the planet.” The Black Eyed Peas also want to display this internationalism in three dimensions. It’s unclear whether they are shooting in 3D or converting the film later, but if the Black Eyed Peas have truly roped in Cameron, they have perhaps the best 3D jockey in the business.

Cameron, however, is not the first big-name director to make a concert film. Martin Scorsese was widely hailed for his work on The Last Waltz, about the Band, and his more recent Rolling Stones documentary, Shine a Light. Other great music documentaries include those made by acclaimed directors such as Peter Greenaway, Jean-Luc Godard and Jonathan Demme. Then again, for every movie maverick there is always a Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience.

Will.I.Am also revealed that Fergie is working on a second solo album, and they have “material ready [for recording]“. He has also reassured fans about reports of a rift within the Black Eyed Peas. “Don’t believe gossip about Fergie leaving the group,” he wrote on Twitter. “We are never breaking up – it’s all lies!” So much for the “split peas” jokes.
